The River Wye is one of the classic rivers which flows through some of the finest, picturesque scenery in England and Wales with Hay Bluff and the Black Mountains to the south and Radnorshire Hills to the north – areas of outstanding natural beauty rich with wildlife to include; Red Kites, Kingfishers and Herons
Blue Mountain Activities has a great deal of knowledge and experience on the River Wye. We have been canoeing with groups on the River Wye for over 20 years.
We have Open Canadian canoes that carry 2x persons (or 2x adults and up to 2x small children).
All hire is on the River Wye, Mid Wales where open canoes can be hired for either; Half Day, Full Day or Two or more days.
There are a variety of river journeys to best suit your needs. They start from Glasbury On Wye and finish at either, Hay On Wye (Half Day), Whitney On Wye (Full Day) or you may wish to continue your adventure for two or more days and camp overnight at a designated campsite on the river bank or stay over night in a B&B, to finish at Bredwadine (Two Days) or continue with a unique and memorable canoe and camp expedition up to Five Days to Ross On Wye, Symmonds Yat and finish at Tintern Abbey on the edge of the Forest of Dean.
The canoe hire includes; Open Canadian canoe (2 or 3 person to share), paddle, buoyancy aid, river map and the option of a waterproof storeage barrel. Our canoe transport collection service will meet you at the finish and transport you and your canoe back to the start and is free of charge on all Half Day and Full Day Hire.
Half Day Hire
Glasbury On Wye to Hay On Wye – 5 miles – approx 2/3 hours
Starting from Glasbury On Wye to Hay On Wye, the River Wye meanders its way through spectacular, picturesque scenery below the spectacular Black Mountains. There are several small rapids which are easy to navigate with islands and beaches to stop for a break. The final rapid is Hay Weir which is navigated on ‘River Right’. Once you arrive in Hay our Hire team will meet and transport you and your canoe back to Glasbury and the start of your journey
Hire Times:
9.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm -4.30pm
Half Day Hire Cost:
Two person Canoe Half Day is £20 per person (including transport collection)
Three person Canoe Half Day is £14 per person (including transport collection). Children under 10 years free
The cost includes:
Open Canadian canoe, paddles, buoyancy aid and river map.
Available is a waterproof storeage barrel lashed inside the canoe, is ideal for carrying lunch, spare fleece, wallets and cameras and is available at £2 each per day
Transport collection and return of canoe and yourselves to the start at Glasbury (free of charge)
Full Day Hire
Glasbury On Wye – Hay On Wye to the Boat Inn at Whitney On Wye – 10 miles -approx 5-6 hours
From Hay On Wye (half way point) your journey on the River Wye continues to meander through picturesque scenery and finishes at either the wooden Toll Bridge at Whitney On Wye (£1 Toll Fee per canoe and payable by you, directly at the Toll Bridge). Alternatively, continue downstream to the Boat Inn, Whitney On Wye, (a 10 mins paddle). A transport collection service is available at each landing place to return you and canoe to the start at Glasbury.

9.30am – 4.30pm
Full Day Hire Cost:
Two person Canoe – Full Day £30 per person (including transport collection)
Three person Canoe – Full Day £20 per person (including transport collection)

Full Day: £35 per person per day
If you are looking for a unique and an exciting adventure of two or more days with an overnight camp, to include a canoe journey through the stunning and picturesque scenery on the River Wye, see Kingfishers, Herons, Cormorants, then this provides a unique opportunity to ‘get away from it all’.
There are selected river bank campsites along the whole length of the River Wye.
A canoe journey over two or more days – to include an overnight camp, starting at Glasbury On Wye and continuing to Whitney On Wye, camp overnight, and then onto Bredwardine or even further along the River Wye to Ross On Wye or Symmonds Yat and Monmouth.
Day 1: Glasbury On Wye to Hay On Wye to the Boat Inn and campsite at Whitney On Wye – 10 miles – approx 4-6 hours

Day 2: Boat Inn, Whitney On Wye to Bredwardine On Wye or Bycross –
10 miles or 12 miles – approx 4 – 6 hours.
Cost of canoe hire only (two person canoe)
Full Day £30 per person per day
Cost includes;
Open Canadian canoe, paddles, buoyancy aid and river map.
Two waterproof storeage barrels (one large and one small barrel) lashed inside the canoe, are ideal for carrying tents, sleeping bags, stove and food for multi day camping expeditions and are available at £2 each per day
Transport collection costs to return canoe and yourselves to the start at Glasbury.
Bredwardine £25, Hereford £45, beyond Hereford £55 per group of up to 12
Available April – end of September
